Your credit score is a key aspect of your financial life, most noticeably impacting your ability to borrow money for large purchases, such as a home or car. The impact of your credit score, however, extends far beyond these lending decisions, sometimes being used as a determining factor in being approved for renting an apartment, setting up utilities without a deposit, getting the best car insurance rate, or even being hired for some jobs.
With all of these companies checking your credit, it’s important that you monitor your own credit, as well. So, how can you do this? If you’re a PSECU member with a checking account or loan, we offer qualifying members a free credit score service.* This free membership benefit reports monthly credit scores, helping members keep a pulse on their credit.
PSECU members with a checking account or a loan can enroll in our free credit score service. Additionally, the primary owner of the account must be 18 years of age or older.
Once enrolled in our free credit score service, you’ll receive monthly updates to your score. You can sign up for an account alert that will notify you when your updated score is available. Notification choices include email, text, or push notification.
When your credit score is updated each month, you can view it in the PSECU mobile app by simply logging in, tapping “More,” and then tapping “FICO.” This will take you to a listing of your credit scores over the previous 12 months and let you know when the next update to your score will occur.
For a more in-depth look at your credit score, you can view your updated score in online banking by logging in at psecu.com and clicking on “FICO® Score” on the left side menu. Here, you’ll see not only a charted view of your credit score over the past 12 months, but also a couple of notes about your score and actions you can take to improve it.
You may have heard that inquiries into your credit can impact your credit score. While this is correct, there are exceptions, such as when you’re checking your own credit. Checking your own credit is considered a soft inquiry and does not negatively impact your credit score.
Eligible members can sign up for our free credit score service in the PSECU mobile app or in online banking.
In the PSECU mobile app, tap “More,” then “FICO®,” and follow the prompts.
